How do you associate a Tab with returning users?

Supertab automatically recognizes returning users through a combination of identity and payment details. Ensuring their purchases continue to accumulate on the correct open tab.

When a user logs in (either explicitly or through a background session restore), Supertab links their current browsing session to their verified account identity. From that point forward, all purchases are added to the same open tab associated with that account.

Here’s how the association works in practice:

  • Verified identity: Most users sign in via a social provider such as Google or Apple. These logins return a unique, persistent identifier that securely ties the user to their account.
  • Local session storage: Once a session is created, Supertab stores it in the browser’s local storage without using cookies. This allows the user to be recognized on return visits without requiring a fresh login.
  • Cross-merchant continuity: Because Supertab operates across multiple participating sites, the same account ID is used everywhere. If the user visits a new merchant while logged in, their open tab follows them automatically.

If a returning user clears their local storage, switches browsers, or uses a new device, Supertab simply prompts them to log in again via their chosen social provider. Once authenticated, their open tab and full ledger history are restored instantly.

This approach ensures seamless continuity for users while maintaining precise attribution for merchants. Every purchase, on any site, flows to the correct tab.
